- Doris commenced school at Meredith, Victoria in about 1920. The family was devastated at the death of Henry Lowne when Doris was just 12 years of age. She was the youngest of 4 girls.
Her mother suffered a great deal with depression after the death of her husband and the family struggled financially after the bread winners death.
Mable Lowne, her mother was avery capable seamstress and used her skills to earn some finance to help with the family upkeep although this was dificult times heading into the Depression and a small isolated not very well to do, farming community.
Upon the time when all her children left for employment Mabel moved to Melbourne and lived in as a house keeper with varous families for after her daughters left home. She continued with her seamstress skills.

She was able to help support her mother who remained at Meredith for a number of years before moving to Melbourne.
Doris worked as a domestic at the Geelong College, in Geelong prior to marrying Owen David Errey in 1936. He was always know as Dave Errey and owned a garage in Meredith during much of the 1930s.

- Upon Dave's discharge from the Airforce he was able to obtin work in Adelaide and soon after Doris made the move south with the two young children.
It must have been a some unsetling move and she did not seem to like upheaval change and moving of the family to new circumstances, to have the family all back together and to be with Dave it seemed as though it was worth the effort.
